The Association of Illinois Middle-Grade Schools (AIMS) is seeking Illinois middle schools who are interested in pursuing designation as an Illinois Horizon School to Watch (IHSTW)”. Illinois Horizon Schools to Watch are exemplary middle schools that display academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity and sound organizational structures/processes.

There are currently 25 Illinois Middle Schools that have achieved IHSTW designations. These sites are among 367 Schools to Watch recognized by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform.

Newly Designated:

  • Kaneland Harter Middle School. Sugar Grove, Illinois. Principal: Bryan Zwemke.
  • Clifford Crone Middle School. Naperville, Illinois. Principal: Allan Davenport
  • Nathan Davis School. Chicago, Illinois. Principal: Santos Gomez

Re-designated for the 3rd Time:

  • Gordon Gregory Middle School. Naperville, Illinois. Principal: Steve Severson
  • Indian Creek Middle School. Waterman, Illinois. Principal: Paula Kennedy.

Congratulations to the new and re-designated Illinois Horizon Schools to Watch. They will be recognized locally at the AIMS Summer Splash on June 17 and nationally at the Schools to Watch Conference in Washington D.C. on June 26 and 28.

The Standards Based Grading Workshop to be presented on April 15 in Countryside, Illinois is completely “sold out”.

In response to the unprecedented interest in this topic, the AIMS Summer Splash event on June 17 in Tinley Park, Illinois will focus on Student Assessment, Student Growth Measurements and Grading. We will feature a keynote speaker as well as April and Matt Zawlocki presenting sessions throughout the day. Also featured will be presentations related to best practices in middle level education.
