Standards-Based Grading
Have you ever wondered how you can change your practices to effectively increase student achievement and learning? Standards-based grading is an effective way to change your grading focus to be on student learning. This session will ask you to question your grading techniques and also will give you small changes you can implement immediately to encourage student learning. More comprehensive education regarding standards-based grading will also be introduced.
April Zawlocki is an eighth grade Language Arts/History teacher with Indian Prairie School District 204 and has been using standards-based grading aligned with the Common Core Standards (CCS) in her classroom since their adoption in 2010. She is also on the curriculum writing team for the new ELA curriculum aligned to the CCS.
Matt Zawlocki is a Technology Education teacher at Gower Middle School. He, too, has been working on using the CCS and standards-based grading.
